Getting Started

You have made a positive first step to get help in managing your mental health needs. At YSS Family Counseling & Clinic, we provide a skilled and experienced team of professionals. If seeking medication management, you must first see a therapist to be evaluated.

Step One: Insurance Coverage and Payment

YSS Family Counseling & Clinic takes a wide array of insurances for payment including Medicaid and Medicare. Please bring your insurance information to your first appointment.

Step Two: Make an Appointment

Contact our office at 515.233.2250 to speak with our administrative staff. We will help you schedule an appointment with the YSS provider who best suits your needs based on their specialties and expertise. During this call, we will also confirm your insurance and share any other important details you will need before your appointment.

Step Three: Patient Forms

Please arrive 30 minutes before your first scheduled appointment time to complete patient forms with our Admissions Coordinator. Our Admissions Coordinator will make a photocopy of your insurance card and review any necessary information with you.


Individual and Family Focused Care

Experts at YSS Family Counseling & Clinic have extensive education, training and experience in a wide variety of proven treatment approaches designed to meet the unique needs of each individual. Psychiatric Consultation

Evaluation, assessment and diagnosis is provided to guide treatment. When appropriate, medication management is available using prescribed medication as a tool to address behavioral and mental health

Mental Health Therapy

Our experts provide clinical assessment and diagnosis to focus and direct treatment toward positive mental health and behavioral outcomes.

Behavioral Health Intervention Services (BHIS)

BHIS is a Medicaid-funded program that teaches families helpful skills to positively address their child’s behaviors, including anger management, conflict resolution, social skills, communication and problem solving.

Integrated Health Services (IHS)

Finding and managing quality mental health services and care can be a stressful process. Through care coordination, the IHS program offers the support you need to provide overall better health for your child.

Access and Visitation Program

For the benefit of children whose families are involved in a separation or divorce, YSS provides mediation and visitation counseling. Our staff will assist in allowing the non-custodial parent to spend time with their child in a safe setting, while providing emotional support to the child through visitation counseling. Please contact the Family Counseling and Clinic for more information on the eligibility criteria.

Substance Abuse Counseling

Substance Abuse Counseling provides ongoing individual and group counseling to adolescents, young adults, and adults struggling with substance abuse disorders.

Specialty Interventions

YSS Family Counseling & Clinic creates a welcoming environment built on trust and confidentiality for our clients. Treatment services are tailored to meet each family’s unique needs.

Play Therapy

Through working with children in their natural language of play, this practice helps a child develop decision making and coping skills, responsibility and self-control.

Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

PCIT provides services for families of young children with disruptive behavior disorders; families at high risk for child abuse; and young children experiencing risk factors, such as family disruptions, ADHD or developmental delays.

Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

Treating children and youth who have experienced trauma, TF-CBT helps both the child and parent address the behavioral and emotional consequences of traumatic experiences.

Multi-Dimential Family Therapy (MDFT)

For youth who are struggling with addiction – or are at risk for addiction – and are having behavioral issues, YSS offers Multidimensional Family Therapy (MDFT). This comprehensive, family-centered treatment approach is goal-oriented, and focuses on all of the relationships that may influence teens.

Effective in helping youth (ages 11-18) with substance abuse problems and other emotional and behavioral difficulties, MDFT helps address disrespect and disobedience; aggressive behavior; problems at school; depression; and anxiety.

Therapy provides a combination of services to adolescents and their families based on the child’s unique strengths and needs. Treatment may include:

  • Weekly family therapy
  • Individual sessions with the adolescent
  • Involvement of other support systems
  • Coordinating activities with school systems, courts and/or social service agencies
  • Individualized case management

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR therapy is a non-invasive, evidence-based intervention that facilitates adaptive information processing.
Through EDR therapy, clients are able to reprocess traumatic information until it is no longer psychologically disruptive.
