High-quality, evidence-based treatment

Our program delivers therapeutic and skill development guidance and support, led by licensed behavioral health therapists and certified addiction counselors.

Psychiatric evaluation and medication management are essential components to the program. Co-occurring mental health treatment services help to address issues that may accompany substance use and abuse.

When appropriate, our treatment experts implement multidimensional family therapy (MDFT), a comprehensive, family-centered approach that is structured and goal-oriented, focusing on all of the relationships that may influence a teen (e.g. family, peers, neighbors, school, community).

YSS is in the top 10 of all therapeutic professionals in the United States to implement MDFT. For more information about MDFT, visit rethinkrecovery.org.

Gender-specific focus

A unique aspect of the YSS program is our gender-responsive focus. This approach allows youth to receive support designed to meet their specific needs.

Young men learn:

  • Respectful behavior
  • Impulse control
  • Anger management skills
  • How to make positive choices

Young women learn how to:

  • Develop and strengthen coping skills
  • Improve self-esteem and confidence
  • Build healthy relationships
  • Feel honored and valued

A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO WELLNESS

When a youth leaves our program, we want to ensure s/he has the personal strength and tools needed to maintain sobriety, and continue a healthy life. As such, we focus on three areas:

  • Mental wellness: Creates and strengthens a critical thinking mindset.
  • Spiritual wellness: Uses meditation and spiritual principles to encourage youth to seek a higher power that will help them remain sober and lead a successful life.
  • Physical wellness: Teaches the importance of taking care of your body through proper nutrition and regular exercise, while relating a healthy physical lifestyle to an overall healthy life.

Preparation for Success

As a guest of YSS, youth will participate in regular individual and group sessions to better understand themselves in the context of their relationships and addictions, while also learning success strategies for life after treatment.

For youth who are in junior or high school, we provide onsite classroom instruction with the goal of helping students get back on track – or stay on track – with their studies. A certified teacher oversees each participant’s education plan, collaborating with the youth’s home school district to ensure academic success.

Youth are also given the tools needed to learn about the process that goes into finding, securing and maintaining stable employment.
